[part 1 - arrival]

[ in the world he comes from, knowledge of what exists beyond the three walls that both confine and protect humanity is limited, even forbidden. Though he's ventured beyond the outermost wall - something that only the Survey Corps is capable of doing, and always with sacrifices - Levi knows humanity has only seen an immeasurable fraction of what it once had. He cannot begin to fathom what the rest of the world could be like outside of their short ventures beyond the walls.

So when he awakens in this place, it doesn't occur to him that it could be a different world entirely.

Although the wings are unsettling. Those are new. And itchy as hell. ]

The fuck...


[ in a world where people can transform into titans taller than the monstrous walls that keep them caged, the sudden appearance of wings somehow doesn't seem that terribly far fetched, even if he has no idea how or why, or - more importantly - whom.]


[Part 2 - recon: Written/Action]

[ It's been several hours now, and all of the information he's gathered so far is confusing at best and disturbing at worst. Knowledge of the outside world had been limited, but knowledge of other worlds? Unheard of. He's still trying to wrap is head around it.

After checking for the gear (nowhere to be found, much to his irritation, and thankfully he hadn't had to go far for his uniform), he finds a bench and takes out the journal-like device and studies it thoughtfully. The technology is foreign, and somehow it seems exceedingly fragile - though there is a space to write, and that's all he needs at the moment to help organize his thoughts.

So the following appears, in meticulous, elegant penmanship that he'd only learned a few years ago:]

• No reports or knowledge so far of Titans among general populace
  
• No walls - a 'dome' keeps people in by someone/something called the 'Malnosso'
  
• Inhabitants appear to be from diverse locations
  
• Human experiments...need more information about these damn wings
  
• Captors supposedly provide unlimited food, clothing, shelter. Pretty fucking convenient way to keep people placated.
  
• Currently no 3DMG found; other weapons readily available
  
• Technology much more advanced than anything found within the walls ("Electricity?")
  
• Rumors of a war with a group called the 'Third Party' that seeks to exterminate all living within the dome - motivation unknown
  
• ...animals can talk...fucking creepy; might be useful
  
• Require more information about location, threats, etc. Where the fuck am I and how do I get home.

No one really knows. According to the limited amount of available history, they appeared over a hundred years ago to protect what was left of humanity from the titans. There's even a group of cultist creeps that believe the walls are a divine gift from some god.

[and an apparent conspiracy about the true origins of the walls having been covered up, but that's too much information that they're still in the process of sorting out themselves. And potentially dangerous.]

Titans?

[ Now they're really getting somewhere. Kakashi was curious about the aforementioned "titans" that Levi had written about, and had intended to ask about them. "What was left of humanity" suggests that Levi is from a world that must have been devastated by these "titans." ]

Yes. Humanoid man-eaters. They range from approximately five meters to fifteen meters and have only one weak spot on the back of the neck. Any other damage they can regenerate after only a few seconds or minutes, depending on how severe it is.

And before you ask, no one knows where they came from or why, or why they have an appetite for eating humans. As far as we know they don't even have a biological need for food since they survived for a hundred years without access to any people as a food source.

And these walls, they're enough to keep out the titans.

[ This is starting to make a lot of sense now, though the thought of a fifteen meter humanoid man-eater makes Kakashi a little uneasy. He's faced monsters that big before, but those monsters had more than just one weak spot on the back of the neck, and certainly don't normally feed on humans, seeing as they're usually sealed inside one. ]

The walls are sixty meters high. Usually they're enough to keep them out. The titans can't communicate, either with us or one another. Their cognitive abilities are limited, though they sometimes demonstrate the capacity to learn to adapt.

[recent information has shed light on that particular trait, but he's not going to share that yet.]

Hmm, well, I'm certainly glad that there aren't any titans here in Luceti...

[ Kakashi says after a moment, finishing off his cup of tea. ]

If they're up to fifteen meters tall, how do you normally fight them? Do you have any sort of special powers?

[ Can you fly. ]

[He wishes.]

We have a special weapon called Three-Dimensional Maneuver Gear. It's a system of grappling hooks and gas propellant that allows us to fight in territory with tall buildings or trees to get up to their level. The gear also includes a set of long blades that are used like swords to attack the blind spot.

I hear weapons often arrive here, so I expect mine will be available at some point.

[He sincerely hopes, anyway. In the meantime yes - it's quite good that there are no titans here. For now.]

I wouldn't mind seeing a demonstration once they do arrive.

[ It sounds interesting, after all. Could be useful to learn about. ]

In my world, we usually only have to worry about other humans. But some of these humans have powers that... can only be defined as monstrous.

[ And some of them are even more monstrous than the monsters.

Like Madara.

Or Obito... ]

[there are some people in his world who could be said to have monstrous powers. In this world and in others, it might be called magic, except that there seems to be some kind of hidden explanation for how people like Eren have the ability to transform into titans.]

We've had to worry more about other humans recently as well.

I've been hearing a lot about this power called 'magic,' does it exist in your world too?

In my world, we don't call it magic. They're simply techniques that anyone can learn, should they be properly trained. Of course, not anyone can master them, and certain shinobi have different techniques that are unique only to them, as our powers largely depend on aspects of our chakra, which is the output of spiritual and physical energy.

When you mold chakra correctly, you can perform a number of different techniques.

[ Kakashi explains all this as he refills his cup of tea then lifts it up. ]

Actually, I've been using a technique this entire time we've been sitting here drinking tea.

[ He takes a sip of tea for emphasis. ]

You see me drinking tea through my mask. But what you're seeing is an illusion, and the technique what we would call genjutsu.

[an eyebrow quirks up some at that. He concentrates on it, but of course he can't see the trick itself. The concept of chakra is foreign to him, though he attempts to understand how spiritual and physical energy might work together.]

So you've tricked my vision somehow to make it seem like you're drinking through the mask, when in reality on the other side of the trick you're not.

Is the mask itself an illusion?

[ Kakashi chuckles softly then, a low sound at the back of his throat. ]

No, the mask is real. I just consider myself a... very private person.

[ In other words, very few people get to see his face.

Especially here in Luceti. ]

But you've got the idea, more or less.

More powerful forms of genjutsu can kill a man, or make a man kill himself.

[ And then there are some that can literally destroy the world. ]

[Levi can appreciate privacy. There are things everyone wants to keep hidden, and he is certainly no exception. Kakashi's face isn't important in the grand scheme of things, so he focuses on other things.

He considers him a moment before asking his next question, though.]

You're powerful enough to use those forms.

Amongst other things.

[ Quite a lot of other things, actually. Well over one thousand techniques, to be precise. ]

All shinobi are trained in three basic types of techniques -- genjutsu, which controls illusions; taijutsu, which is the art of hand to hand combat; and then there's ninjutsu, which is essentially what I think you would call "magic." Within ninjutsu, there are also elemental techniques which can call up the power of earth, wind, water, fire, and lightning. Depending on the elemental form of your chakra, a user can create different elemental techniques.

[ Kakashi knows this can get technical, so, to make it easier for Levi: ]

In other words, some people can create fire attacks that are many meters in diameter and others can make a towering dragon out of water that can swallow opponents whole.

[ He hasn't even gotten into all the other techniques, either. ]

Anyone in...your world - [it's still weird to think about, to say. They can barely fathom what's outside the walls of their own world, nevermind considering the possibility that there could be entirely other 'worlds' out there] - has the ability to learn these things, if they have the aptitude for it?

How can you tell what kind of element a person can use?

Technically, anyone can learn how to master chakra, as all living things have chakra in them. Logically, anyway. As for how we determine elemental affinity, generally there are a few tests that can be done to determine primary affinity. Some people have more than one elemental affinity.

[ Kakashi doesn't say how many he has, though. But then, he wasn't asked. ]

Have you tried teaching anyone else here how to use this power?

[ Aha. ]

Not yet. I'd also have to check with the Yondaime Hokage, who is the leader of my village, as to whether or not I would be allowed to do so.

I'd be interested in the answer.

[he pours more tea for both of them.]

I think that would largely depend on what you have to contribute back, in exchange for our training you.

[ In other words: nothing is for free. ]

That's expected. What do you want in return?

Well, we'd most likely need to share some sort of formal interests. In a formal alliance of some kind. Are there others from your world with you here, or are you alone?

There's four of us. Two cadets who have been here for a couple of months already and the commander of the Survey Corps that arrived recently as well.

Mm, there are quite a number of us. Including myself, there are sixteen from my world.
