First; Anyone experienced with carpentry or building small structures, respond here. I have a small project for you if you're so inclined. We can work out a deal if necessary.

All Cadets: We'll be establishing a training schedule at the end of the week. Consider this some extra free time to become familiar with the area and check in with Erwin if you learn something that seems important.

Hange: This is your fault.

[action; Levi woke up this morning with the full force of a cold which is likely the direct result of being dragged into a fountain of cold water thanks to Hange when she first arrived (or so he assumes). He's hacking up a lung and generally crankier than usual and staying in bed for the next two days drinking tea and sleeping and probably not going to be the most pleasant person to interact with, so approach at your own risk.]

Some things are too easy here.

[He's not one for unnecessary suffering either, but somehow just healing seems like something that they could get used to and complacent about extremely quickly. If he's not dying of pneumonia, he'll muddle through.]

Maybe. Katara's a healer, so I guess we're sort of lucky in my house?

[ Because her future-grandmother isn't about to let any of them sit through anything they don't have to, although she can't heal colds...but they do know people who can. ]

Waterbenders can heal with their bending.

Yeah, well, it is.

[He'd chosen to follow Levi of his own will, and he doesn't regret that decision.]

Good. Even if you weren't, it wouldn't be that easy to get rid of me.

[He smiles, though his heart isn't exactly in it, or the teasing. He knows Levi's upset about the reason they haven't seen each other, which Farlan doesn't particularly want to know about.]

So don't worry about it.

The steam's ready.

So bending can be used for combat and for healing?

[That's definitely interesting information. Not for the first time he feels...oddly wistful of the abilities some of these people seem to be simply born with - imagine how much easier it'd be to deal with titans then.

But he also realizes that even with these powers there arise different challenges, just as threatening to them as titans.]

[it's just as well. Levi doesn't particularly want to talk about how his pride and vanity killed the only two friends he'd ever had at that point.]

She's the person who looked after the orchard back when she was around. I figure that means she knows at least something about farming and caring for plants.

No problem.

[He reaches out a hand to him, face softening.]

I'll help you up. And you'll feel better in a minute.

More than a year now. You start to lose track of time after you've been here for a while, though. Some people think that's a good thing, some don't.

If you haven't decided where to put it yet, the road leading to the battle dome has a lot of space off to the side. It gets a lot of foot traffic too.

I see. How long has she been gone?

[Levi deliberately takes Farlan's hand with the one he hadn't coughed into - it's bad enough that he's allowing him to be exposed to his illness this long, he won't directly make the possibility of him getting sick worse because he wiped his germs on him thoughtlessly.

It's just gross anyway.

He grips Farlan's hand tighter than strictly necessary, perhaps. Every day he still wrestles with the realization that he's here. Farlan has to know by now what happened, and Levi owes him the honesty of saying that it was his fault. But he can't make himself bring it up, and Farlan hasn't asked.

So he'll wait if he ever asks.]

Haven't checked in with you recently. Any news?

[It wasn't exactly difficult for Farlan to figure out what must have happened, considering Levi's silence on the subject. Not that he knows exactly what happened. The fact that the last thing he remembers was being out on the mission is one thing, but--well, the nobles would have been just as glad to exterminate them.

He's not sure what good knowing the truth would do. From what he understands, he won't be able to change anything back home. He'll just die, that's all. It's more than a little depressing. He sighs.]

No problem. Now just breathe this steam in. It'll make you feel better. And since you have some salt and pepper, we can use those to help you, too.

[He did go through the cabinets. Well, he had to. Salt and pepper are expensive at home and would have to be stolen, but that problem doesn't exist here.]

[ Levi needn't chastise himself so harshly; it was a small gesture in the grand scheme of things, one that Erwin is already forcing to the back of his mind. He's more concerned with Levi's dry coughing. He sounds wretched. ]

I could go to the clinic and inquire about cold remedies.

[ Erwin still isn't entirely sure about the medicine here, but he'll look into it, at least. ]

Yeah! I mean, only waterbenders are healers like that. It's 'cause they can manipulate the body...stuff...I dunno how it works, airbenders don't work like that.

[ She should ask Katara more about it... ]

['body stuff,' huh. Sounds like he needs to go to the actual source on this one if he wants more details.]

This Katara is a waterbender?

Captain, [She says, not sure what to say in reply to that. Instead, she reaches to brush his bangs from his eyes before gently wiping the cloth over his forehead again. He was only being like this because he was sick, right?]

I'll have to go to the kitchen to get the tea when the kettle boils, but I'll come back when your tea is ready and stay with you until you fall asleep. Is that okay?

A few months now, I think. I wasn't very close to her, so I don't remember exactly how long it's been. I'm not surprised that people stepped up to help take care of the farm and the orchard, though. She seemed like she had a lot of friends here.

You and me both.

[While Shuda can't deny that it's nice to be able to relax a little, at the same time, the feeling of being trapped makes him antsy, as does the lack of combat. He's so used to traveling and fighting that suddenly not being able to do so is more than a little disconcerting.]

[probably, most likely - he can't really tell right now, but he'll go with that as an excuse. A fever, really. The cloth seems to settle him a little, closing his eyes at the brief relief it brings pressed coolly to his forehead.]

Fine...

Nothing of importance, sir. Just getting used to having all these familiar faces around.

[As if on cue, the kettle whistles shrilly. Petra quickly pulls the cloth back and wets it again before laying it across Levi's forehead, waiting a moment to make sure it stays in place. When she's satisfied it won't fall in his lap, she rises to stand, impulsively reaching to touch his cheek for a brief second.]

I'll be back, I promise.

[She leaves quickly, not wanting to give him a chance to worry or protest. It doesn't take long to set up the tea, having set out everything when she was in the kitchen earlier. She moves briskly and efficiently, and she returns relatively quickly, carefully setting the cup of tea on the nightstand.]

It's still too hot to drink, but it'll be ready in a few minutes.

[Normally, she'd let it cool down before presenting it, but she doesn't want to leave him alone like this, not when he's already asked to to stay with him.]

[she'll be back, and logically he understands, but there's a strange panic that seems to fill his chest slowly as he watches her leave, as though if she does leave, he won't see her again.

Ever again.

But by the time he manages to be worried enough to cry out, she returns, and the strange feeling dissipates.

Everything seems hazier around her though, even moreso than before.]

Petra...tell Erd...he's in charge while I'm sick...

Eld? [It comes out as a high pitched squeak, her cheerful expression falling immediately. That was a name she hadn't wanted to speak of since arriving, since realizing that they hadn't followed her here. It was much too bitter to think of him, all of them. Why was he suddenly bringing that up?]

I'll be sure to tell him that, sir. [Petra's proud of herself for keeping her tone even, not choking on her words and putting on her bright expression again. She can only hope he drops the subject; she doesn't know how long she can play along, and it couldn't be good for his health if she reminded him, however gently, of what had happened in the forest.] Just focus on taking care of yourself, and we'll take care of everything else in the meanwhile, okay?
